Welcome to The Chronicle of Arda. This section of the site provides automated annals
for all four Ages of the Sun and Moon. For any period of Arda's history, the
Chronicle will display the events that happened in that time. Events and characters are entered into the
Chronicle as they are added to the main database: like the rest of The Encyclopedia of Arda this section of
the site is expanding all the time.
You can have the Chronicle look up events for specific dates by entering one or two years in the form below.
If you enter two dates, the Chronicle will display events that happened between those two years.
If you leave one of the dates blank, the Chronicle will display events in the century around the single year you specify.
For years after III 1601 (the year of the foundation of Shire, and therefore Shire Year 1), the Chronicle will also show years by the Shire-reckoning in a second column.

| 1940 | 340 | Wedding of Arvedui, heir to the kingdom of Arthedain and Fíriel, daughter of King Ondoher of Gondor. |
| c. | 1941 | 341 | Approximate date of the birth of Aranarth, son and heir of Arvedui Last-king. |
| 1944 | 344 | Arvedui lays claim to the throne of Gondor. |
| | | King Ondoher of Gondor is slain with both his sons. |
| | | Gondor is assaulted simultaneously by the armies of Khand, Harad and the Wainriders. The Battle of the Camp. |
| 1945 | 345 | The Crown of Gondor is granted to Eärnil II. |
| 1950 | 350 | Probably date of the birth of Imrazôr the Númenórean, ancestor of the Lords of Dol Amroth. |
| 1960 | 360 | Likely date of birth of Mardil son of Vorondil, later to become the first Ruling Steward of Gondor. |
| 1964 | 364 | Death of Araphant. He is succeeded by his son Arvedui. |
| 1974 | 374 | Arvedui, last of the Kings of Arthedain, is drowned in the Icebay of Forochel. |
| | | The forces of Angmar capture Fornost; the remnant of the North-kingdom is destroyed. |
| 1975 | 375 | Eärnur of Gondor brings a fleet to the north. Too late to save the North-kingdom, he avenges its loss at the Battle of Fornost. Angmar is destroyed. |
| 1976 | 376 | The Chieftainship of the Dúnedain is established by Aranarth son of Arvedui. |
| 1977 | 377 | A band of Northmen are led by Frumgar to settle in the far northern Vales of Anduin, where they found the Éothéod. |
| 1979 | 379 | Bucca of the Marish is the made the first of the Shire-thains. |
| 1980 | 380 | The Dwarves of Moria unleash Durin's Bane. King Durin VI is slain by it. |
| c. | 1980 | 380 | Return of the Nazgûl to Mordor. |
| 1981 | 381 | Náin I is slain. The last remaining Dwarves flee from Durin's Bane in Khazad-dûm. |

| 1982 | 382 | Loss of Nimrodel. |
| 1984 | 384 | No events are recorded for the specific year you selected. |
| 1998 | 398 | Death of Pelendur. He is succeeded as Steward to Eärnil II by his son Vorondil. |
| 1999 | 399 | After years of wandering, the exiles of Khazad-dûm found Erebor. |
| | | Probable date of the birth of Eradan son of Mardil, later Ruling Steward of Gondor. |
| 2000 | 400 | The Nazgûl emerge from Mordor and assault Minas Ithil. |
| c. | 2000 | 400 | Approximate date of the slaying of Scatha the Worm by Fram of the Éothéod. |
| 2002 | 402 | Capture of Minas Ithil by the Nazgûl. It is renamed Minas Morgul, and Minas Anor is also renamed Minas Tirth, the Tower of Guard. |
| 2004 | 404 | Birth of Galador son of Imrazôr, later to become the first Lord of Dol Amroth. |
| 2012 | 412 | Probable date of the birth of Arahael son of Aranarth, later Chieftain of the Dúnedain. |
| 2029 | 429 | Death of Vorondil the Hunter. He is succeeded as Steward to Eärnil II by his son Mardil. |
