A symbol of royalty among the Kings of Arnor and their descendants The original Elendilmir was an heirloom of ancient Númenor, a radiant white gem set on a fillet of mithril, but it was lost with Isildur at the Disaster of the Gladden Fields. A replacement was made, on a fillet of silver rather than mithril, that was borne by Isildur's descendants until the time of Aragorn and almost certainly beyond.
