The thirteenth King of Gondor, the nephew of the childless Tarannon Falastur. The second of the four 'Ship-kings', he captured Umbar for Gondor, but was lost in a storm off its coast.

The date of Eärnil's birth appears only in The History of Middle-earth volume XII, The Peoples of Middle-earth. It cannot therefore be considered completely reliable.
