The son and successor to Tar-Ancalimë, the first of Númenor's Ruling Queens. Tar-Anárion's lifetime saw a series of critical events unfolding in Middle-earth. During his early childhood, Sauron emerged from the shadows and settled in the land of Mordor, later coming to the Elves and succeeding in the seduction of the Noldor of Eregion. Meanwhile, the Númenóreans themselves were making inroads into Middle-earth. It was during the reign of Tar-Ancalimë that the first true Númenórean settlements were made in Middle-earth, and Tar-Anárion seems to have continued his mother's colonial policy.

Both of the King's elder children were daughters, but each in turn refused the Sceptre, and so after a rule of 114 years, Tar-Anárion was succeeded by his third child and only son, who ruled Númenor as Tar-Súrion.
