The main area of the kingdom of Doriath was comprised of the two great central forests of Beleriand: Neldoreth and Region. These lay to the east of Sirion, but across the river to the west, northward of Aelin-uial, was the small forest of Nivrim. This formed the West March of Doriath, and was included within the Girdle of Melian, so that a small part of the flow of Sirion fell within the power of Thingol. Doriath also had a comparable East March beyond Aros on the other side of the kingdom, a small forest known as Arthórien.
