The youngest child and only daughter of Wilibald Bolger and Prisca Baggins, Nora had two elder brothers, Wilimar and Heribald. She was a distant descendant of the Bolger patriarch Gundolpho through a lesser line (Nora was the great-great-granddaughter of Gundahad Bolger, Gundolpho's youngest son).
Born in the year III 2960 (S.R. 1360), Nora was forty-one at the time of Bilbo Baggins' famous eleventy-first Birthday Party. She was invited to that Party, and attended with her ninety-five-year-old mother Prisca and her two brothers, though not her father Wilibald, who had died in the previous year.

In modern use the name Nora originated as an abbreviation, typically of Latin Honora (ultimately from 'honour'), and this may be true of Nora Bolger too. While her father and brothers had Germanic names following the Bolger family tradition, it is notable that Nora's mother, Prisca Baggins, also had a name that might be taken as abbreviation from a Latin source. |
